All About Unicorns

Everything a young explorer might want to know.

What is a unicorn?

A unicorn is a magical creature that looks a bit like a horse, but with one very special thing: a spiral horn in the middle of its forehead. That horn is called an alicorn. Every unicorn's horn is a little different — some are silver, some are pearl, and some sparkle like a piece of the rainbow.

Where do they live?

Unicorns love quiet, sunny places. Most of them live in bright meadows where the grass is soft and the flowers hum. Some cousins prefer higher places, like cloud valleys and mountain peaks, where the air smells like fresh mint.

Wherever unicorns live, streams and rivers are usually nearby. A unicorn's home always has clean water — because unicorns keep it that way.

What magic can they do?

What do unicorns eat?

Unicorns are nibblers. They love moonberries (little silver berries that only grow on full-moon nights), starlight grass (grass that catches a bit of starlight and holds it), and — of course — apples. Any apple will do, but they think the crunchy pink ones are best.

Unicorn cousins

Unicorns are not the only magical creatures with sparkly manes. They have three well-known cousins.

🌬️ Pegasus

A winged horse who lives in cloud valleys and makes friends with the wind. Pegasi love to race raindrops on the way down.

🐉 Kirin

A gentle deer-like unicorn from faraway forests. Kirin walk so softly that flowers grow behind their hooves.

👑 Alicorn

A unicorn with wings and a horn. Alicorns are very rare and usually keep to themselves, watching over the meadows from high above.

A little bit of history

People have been telling stories about unicorns for a very, very long time — more than two thousand years. Long ago, travelers spoke of a shy, gentle creature with one horn, and every land has its own name and its own story for it.

Whatever people called them, one thing stayed the same: unicorns are creatures of kindness, water, and light.
